Got Kid A today and wow -- this isn't even music. It's a statement. The album abandons the typical conventions of rock blah blah blah you can read this type of review pretty much anywhere.
Radiohead gets a lot of credit from people for being a progressive, revolutionary band and this was really the apex of their change from an alternative rock band who made songs like "Just" to a band who now makes songs like "House of Cards."
The album is one of the most important recent steps rock music has taken, opening the door for bands like Muse to write pop songs like "Uprising." Without tracks like "Optimistic," music just sounds different today. My point is further illustrated when you think that since the album came out in 2000, there's been 10 years of musical osmosis that's occurred since then, and those who are old enough to have bought the album and now make music, are subconsciously writing songs with the influences of their formative years.
This album was ahead of its time when it came out and it's as good as you can imagine. Just don't buy it expecting 10 singles. It's a piece of art and needs to be treated with a little more gravity.
